Yellow House Foundation Mission
Our mission is to provide a safe place for recovery from alcohol and substance abuse in Williamson County and the surrounding Greater Austin community for individuals and their families.
Our Bylaws
The YHF bylaws are the governing rules by which our foundation operates. When our foundation was formed, the first act of the board of directors was to create our bylaws, which is a single document encompassing all our rules.

The Challenge
The Yellow House Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization operating in the state of Texas formed in 2003 that is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors who are committed to this mission of recovery in Central Texas. The Yellow House Foundation is the largest nonprofit 12 Step organization for alcohol and substance abuse recovery in Williamson County. For those in recovery and their families, the Yellow House Foundation provides a home for hope.
Our contribution to this community has not gone unnoticed. In 2019, the Texas House of Representatives unanimously passed House Resolution 2149, honoring the Yellow House Foundation for “its contributions to substance abuse recovery in Williamson and Travis Counties.”
RECOGNIZING THE PROBLEM Alcohol and substance abuse are diseases that do not discriminate and can affect those from all walks of life. While often stigmatized, more often it is overlooked or kept quiet. Addiction affects not only these individuals, but their families who suffer with them, their friends, their co-workers and employers, and anyone who shares the road or interacts with them. Giving people and their families the tools to overcome this disease is our passion and purpose. Here are some facts to consider:
By the end of 2020, mental and substance use disorders had surpassed all physical diseases as a major cause of disability worldwide.
Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, it was estimated that approximately 34,000 (7.5%) Williamson County residents struggle with drug and/or alcohol dependence.
About 6,000 adults are arrested in Williamson County each year for alcohol or drug violations.
These numbers do not take into account the surrounding communities like Austin in our neighboring Travis County—which has one of the highest DWI rates in Texas—that utilizes the services provided by the Yellow House Foundation. HELPING THE SOLUTION Many people assume 12 step and other recovery groups just happen on their own and always find places to meet. But these groups are limited because they have to rent rooms from places like churches or community centers that have their own activities. This usually provides them a chance to offer only one meeting per week while attendees are left on their own in the meantime. The Yellow House Foundation is different. We provide a permanent home for these groups and offer a safe haven every day of the week for recovery. This is the invaluable advantage of having a partnership with a nonprofit organization like ours.
Why We're Different
A Permanent Home, Not a Temporary Room
Most recovery groups can only rent space once a week. We own our facility — giving 8 different programs a reliable, judgment-free home every single day of the year.
What Makes Us Possible
Since 2003, the Yellow House Foundation has been entirely volunteer-run and community-funded — built and sustained by people who believe recovery deserves a permanent home.

The Board was created as a legal entity to own and manage the property and enter into legal contracts for Hope Group AA and other related Groups in the Cedar Park & Leander area of Williamson County.
The Foundation is controlled by a nine-member Board of Directors. Directors are recommended to have at least three years of current and continuous sobriety. The Board has final authority over governance and management of YHF’s properties.
YHF was legally incorporated in April 2003, under Texas state laws.
To ensure the Hand of the AA community as extended by the Hope Group & is readily available in the Leander-Cedar Park area of Williamson County.
The Hope Group lost their lease in the Little Yellow House in late 1996 & was in despair locating another home. Hope Group was on a month to month & only a 30-day notice to vacate. Hope Group moved to their new building & present location in April 1997. The owners of these facilities have been protecting and representing the interest of the Hope Group since April 1997 insuring a proper facility for the Hope Group AA and other AA related meetings & Groups. They too are Friends of Bill W.
The goal of the Yellow House Foundation is to provide a safe and permanent home for all of the Recovery Groups that meet under their roof. YHF has already purchased the land and is now planning to construct a new facility that meets the growing community’s needs.
